Game Log 3 – Imagine
Imagine Phase
During the Imagine Phase, our primary goal was to conceptualize a game that blends tactical strategy with historical storytelling. Inspired by medieval Portugal, we aimed to create an immersive experience where the player embodies a young, agile protagonist navigating the challenges of infiltration, espionage, and combat in the context of medieval conflicts.
The core idea was to balance stealth mechanics with strategic decision-making, allowing players to choose between direct confrontations or subtle infiltration. We wanted the player's choices to shape the narrative, providing different outcomes based on the paths taken.
Playtest
To test our concept, we conducted an initial playtest where players were introduced to the main mechanics:
-
Stealth Movement: Sneaking past guards using environmental cover.
-
Quick Decision-Making: Reacting to unexpected encounters.
-
Exploration: Navigating the intricate castle layout.
Playtest Feedback
Players appreciated the tactical depth and historical immersion, but they highlighted the following areas for improvement:
-
Clarity in Objectives: Make it clearer where to go and what to do during missions.
-
Guard AI: Adding more varied patrol patterns and reaction times.
-
Smoother Transitions: Fixing the occasional stutter when moving between scenes.
Next Steps
Based on feedback, we plan to:
-
Enhance mission guidance with visual cues and mini-maps.
-
Diversify enemy behavior to keep players on their toes.
-
Optimize transitions to ensure fluid gameplay.
